Welcome Elementary School Partners!
For our program, we request regular, hour-long, classroom times, preferably on Fridays. Our facilitators run modules once weekly, for a total of 5-7 weeks. The length of the curriculum can be adjusted based on the needs of each elementary school's schedule, as well as how it aligns with that of the University of Michigan. We typically partner with a school for one semester out of the year. This allows us to expand our curriculum to other elementary schools during the other semester.
Before beginning the modules, we ask the school to work with facilitators on ideal teaching methods, strategies for engaging with students, and how to approach possible conflicts in their classrooms. We then work with the facilitators after each session to reflect and reinforce these ideas throughout the semester.
Teachers are provided access to our current curriculum, and we are available to contact for questions or concerns. While the facilitators will be implementing the curriculum, we ask for teacher assistance with classroom management and preparing student for our arrival through reminders/announcements.
Our facilitators, university undergraduate students, are the backbone of our program. They are our direct connection with the students and are responsible for implementing the EEP curriculum. Although we select facilitators with a clear interest in outreach and elementary education, they are provided with extensive training before working in the classrooms. Facilitators also participate in weekly meetings and lesson planning for the modules. They provide leadership and help establish community in the classroom.
